Skippers at Dundee

Our Story

How Skippers Came To Be

Our story begins back in 1995 when Ben and Cath Kelly were living and working in Darwin. Ben discovered the rich fishing grounds of Dundee Beach and loved the place so much that he made regular visits over the next 20 years.

Ben’s brother John was a frequent visitor too, along with friends and workmates. It was on one of those many visits that the two brothers talked of building beachfront accommodation, somewhere to chill out after an adventurous day on the ocean. They found the perfect waterfront location but not long after, John lost his life in a tragic, climbing accident.

Ben vowed to remember the dream he shared with his brother. He and Cath opened the doors in 2017, naming it ‘Skippers’ after his brother’s middle name. John’s memory and a brother’s love is at the heart of our place.

We hope you treasure Skippers as much as we do and that you find the time and space to reconnect with the special people in your life, to explore the beautiful surroundings and to create meaningful experiences together. After all, it’s often the people we meet in our travels that make for the best memories.

Why Dundee Beach?

With pristine coastlines, peaceful tranquillity and world class fishing in a quiet, unspoilt hideaway, the better question is why wouldn’t you go?
Dundee Beach takes you off the well-worn, typical tourist trail.

The true spirit and flavour of the Territory is still alive here. It’s an authentic experience with its own unique vibe in a pocket of paradise
within easy reach of Darwin.

Skippers Beachfront Sanctuary is ideally located an easy, 200m waterfront stroll to the boat ramp and Lodge of Dundee. What's more, it has all the creature comforts as well as tours to showcase the Dundee Beach region.

Why our guests love Skippers at Dundee

"Great location for singles, couples or groups. Very clean and excellent facilities. Had our air conditioner fail and property owners had a new unit installed immediately, thank you. Would recommend for anyone wishing to visit Dundee Beach."

Andrew, Northern Territory

"A quiet hideaway. The quiet scenery gives us quiet time away from our work life. The Half Day Nature Cruise is conveniently arranged by friendly staff members. We saw dolphins, crocodiles, wild birds & fed the ospreys. We have done a bit of fishing. It was an enjoyable afternoon.
The scenery from the premises is exceptional especially during dawn and sunset. It is only a footstep from the beach walk. You can enjoy a nice early morning looking at the sea from the veranda or lawn area of Skippers."

John,  Northern Territory

"Spectacular location and great staff, the tour was excellent. We didn’t stay long enough, should have booked a few nights rather than just one."

Michelle, Northern Territory
