FAQ's

All you need to know about Dundee Beach & Skippers accommodation!

  • How do we get to Dundee Beach?

We’re just 140km from Darwin International Airport – 90 mins by car. Arrange transfers with Skippers for easy, fuss-free pick up from the airport or pre-organise a hire car.  Sealed, all weather, 2WD roads take you all the way except for the final 150m of graded dirt road to our driveway (when you turn off Dundee Place). If you have your own vehicle, you’re free to explore the local attractions. Otherwise, Skippers has hand-picked the best experiences including fishing charters, group tours to Litchfield National Park and overnight station stays at luxury Finniss River Lodge or extraordinary Tipperary Station.

  • What food options are available?

To eat out, just ‘the local’ pub also known as the Lodge of Dundee in the small township of Dundee Beach. They serve 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. Otherwise, Skippers has an enormous, fully-equipped, stainless steel kitchen if you’d like to self-cater. Bring your food supplies with you as The Lodge of Dundee has only a small selection of groceries. If you’re flying into Darwin, ‘Click and Collect’ to pick up your groceries on the way out is the smart way to go. On Friday nights there’s also affordable meals served up with plenty of camaraderie at the local Dundee Beach Recreation Club (in Lepanto Rd) just 5 mins drive from Skippers at Dundee.

  • What is there to do at Dundee Beach?

Dundee Beach is famous for fishing – you can hire a boat, bring a boat, cast off from the rocks or go out on a fishing charter with Skippers. There’s plenty to do if you’re not into fishing though. You can:

  • Check-in with Skippers at Dundee

We’ll text you with the check-in details once you’ve booked.

On the day of your arrival, our property manager  is available to outline the facilities, guidelines and expectations to make sure you enjoy your stay.

  • Are there crocodiles at Dundee Beach and nearby areas?

Yes, the NT is home to the world’s largest wild crocodile population. That means you can go croc spotting (with Skippers full or half day charter off Dundee Beach) and see one of nature’s most magnificent predators, up close. Be sure to, observe the signs and follow the guidelines and you will be safe.

  • Can we swim at Dundee Beach?

We don’t advise it (see ‘crocodiles’ above). In fact, for your health and safety, we strongly advise against it. That’s why we have a pool so you can enjoy a cooling swim and the view at the same time!

  • Can we bring pets?

Sorry but no. This is a strictly pet-free zone. We want to protect the local wildlife—and your pets too.

  • Is Wi-Fi & mobile phone reception available?

Dundee Beach has coverage for Telstra providers only. Wi-Fi is available for basic internet and mobile usage. Streaming is discouraged since it slows the internet due to the limited plan options available in our area.

  • Are we allowed to light a campfire?

Lighting fires is strictly prohibited anywhere on the property.

  • Can we recycle our bottles & cans?

Please do! Place glass (carefully so as to avoid breakage) and plastic bottles and cans into the recycling bin. There is a separate bin for general rubbish.

  • How is water & electricity supplied to the property?

Tank water – conserve every drop!

Water is collected during the wet months (December to April) to last the year! Please:

    - take short showers,

    - turn off taps to brush teeth, shave and save water,

    - fill dishwasher and washing machine before using,

    - advise us of dripping taps/ leaks.

    Electricity Supply

Weather and other factors cause outages and brown outs with electricity much like other areas (except that our location is more remote). When the power goes out, the water supply will also go off because the pumps (that pump water from the tanks) will stop.

Please contact Skippers on 0467 414 994 between 7am and 7pm so that we can arrange the generator to restore the water supply until the mains power comes back on. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. It is a reality of independently connecting water and power in regional areas where these services are otherwise unavailable. Thank you very much for your patience in these circumstances.

    Septic System

Skippers has a SEPTIC SYSTEM. Flush toilet paper only. Do not flush sanitary items. Wrap them in toilet paper, place in paper bag and bin. We cannot easily or quickly get a plumber out to attend to a blockage (it may take some days) and call out costs are high. To avoid additional costs being oncharged to you and for a pleasant, problem-free stay please ONLY FLUSH TOILET PAPER.

  • Are there TV's in each guest room?

No, not in guest rooms. There is a TV in the living room.

  • Does Skippers at Dundee have a porta cot or highchair?

No, neither. We suggest bringing these if needed.

  • Who do we contact if there are any issues during our stay?

Our team can be contacted on 0467 414 994. Please call. Text messages are not as closely monitored.

  • Is there more 'Guest Information' available at Skippers at Dundee?

Yes, you’ll find a folder in the living room with helpful info about Skippers and the region, including things to do and see.
