Whether you're chasing the catch of a lifetime, looking for a relaxing weekend away or simply wanting to experience one of the Northern Territory's most iconic coastal destinations, Dundee Beach has something for everyone.
Just 90 minutes from Darwin International Airport, Dundee Beach is where locals and visitors alike come to slow down, enjoy incredible sunsets and experience the best of the Top End.
Here's our guide to making the most of your visit!
1. Go Fishing ๐ฃ
It's no secret that fishing is what Dundee Beach is famous for.
The surrounding waters are home to an impressive variety of species including Black Jewfish, Golden Snapper (Fingermark) Barramundi, Spanish Mackerel, Threadfin Salmon, Queenfish, Trevally, Tuna and Coral Trout.
Whether you're launching your own boat, fishing from the beach or simply enjoying the excitement of seeing what everyone brings back to the boat ramp, fishing is at the heart of life at Dundee Beach.
2. Watch an Incredible Top End Sunset ๐
Few places put on a sunset quite like Dundee Beach.
As the afternoon heat fades, locals gather along the beach or settle in with a cold drink to watch the sky cast every shade of orange, pink and purple across the ocean as the sun sinks below a watery horizon.
After a day of fishing or exploring, head back to Skippers at Dundee and settle in for one of the Territory's most spectacular spots watching sunset over the Timor Sea.
3. Wander Down to the Revamped Boat Ramp ๐ค
With plenty of boat launches and retrievals there’s always plenty going on at the boat ramp. Recent reinvestment by the NT government has seen upgrades that allow more public access and the excitement is high for fishing fans heading out on the water with the promise of the day ahead.
Early mornings are full of anticipation as boats head offshore, while afternoons bring plenty of excitement as anglers return with everything from massive Black Jewfish to colourful reef fish.
It's a great place to soak up the local fishing atmosphere.
4. Relax and Unwind ๐ฎ๐จ
One of the biggest attractions of Dundee Beach is simply slowing down.
Take a walk along the beach, enjoy a quiet afternoon by the pool, read a book or spend time with family and friends.
There's no rush here — just fresh air, beautiful scenery and plenty of room to recharge.
5. Visit the Dundee Beach Foreshore ๐ด
The foreshore is the perfect place for a morning coffee, a picnic lunch or an evening stroll.
It's also a great spot for photography - anytime from sunrise to sunset. Capture strong ochres of land, warm white coastal sands and stunning azures of sea and sky then see them change and soften with morning and afternoon light.
6. Experience all Seasons โ๏ธ
Every season brings something unique to Dundee Beach.
Different months bring varying experiences for boating, fishing and exploring.
November and December showcase spectacular light shows as storms roll in from the oceans erupting across skies and seas. Then the wetter months transform the landscape into hues of lush, green foliage with waterfalls cascading and floodplains brimming over and teeming with wildlife.
